    History: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Kate_Stewart

    Personality:
Kate has lived most of her life learning how to live in the shadow of her hugely successful, and hugely influential father. After doing many of the ‘normal’ teenage rebellions - which for her involved not making contact with her father after her parents divorced and then becoming a single mother as a teenager, it was only during the events of (non-canonical, but generally accepted) Downtime, when she was forced to reconnect with her father, that she could begin to acknowledge the influence he had on her life.

It was with her father's encouragement that she pursued a career in science, which is something she loves deeply. Hearing stories about the Doctor and what he and her father had done to save the world, and more, had a massive influence on her life, and it was that that led her to work for UNIT as a scientist at first, then rising through the ranks. What was important to her was that she didn't want to trade on her family name, and dropped Lethbridge. To her, finding her own path as Kate, and on her own merits was more important than being part of the Lethbridge-Stewart family.

It was only when she finally met the Doctor that she felt able to finally accept who she was, and not be afraid of the family name. Her father's death had freed up that aspect of her life in a way, but it was the Doctor's simple acceptance of who she was that helped her to finally admit to her colleagues her name - by which time she was in a position of authority within UNIT anyway, and it was almost irrelevant to most - that affected her most of all.

There's a certain arrogance that exudes from Kate. She knows she's damn good at her job, she has helped to change UNIT from the militaristic aspect that was dominant in the time of Martha Jones to a force that thinks before it jumps most of the time (though there is uncertainty over exactly what her role is in UNIT. She introduces herself as 'Chief Scientific Officer', though she uses the same call sign 'Greyhound Leader' that her father used as Head of the British Branch of UNIT. She is certainly the most influential member of UNIT at the time of the two Dr Who episodes she has been in).

There is even a change in confidence in her from the first time she met the Doctor, to the second time. During The Power of Three, there are moments when faced with overwhelming evidence of alien invasion, she is almost flustered, unsure of herself and what to do, but by the time we come to The Day of the Doctor, it's gone. She's all business, no matter what. The confidence that comes from her has a root in knowing just who she is, also a full acceptance of her role. She's a woman who has influence over UNIT's actions, and she is damn good at her job - and knows it. She is used to being her own person, and doing things her own way, but balancing that with the ever changing situations round about her.

Socially she can be difficult to get to know. That arrogance and confidence can be a hard barrier to break through, and her own upbringing as an upper middle-class child can work against her at times. But once you can work past it, she is a steadfast friend, loyal, almost maternal with colleagues who need it, for instance Osgood, with Kate's constant reminding her to take her inhaler. In many ways, she is truly her father's daughter, with the way he interacted with people - she does so in a very similar manner.

She has a wickedly sharp sense of humour, often using it to surprise people and break through their preconceptions - for example, with Amy in the Power of Three when Amy referred to the historical use of the Tower of London, though you feel sometimes it's hard to know just when she is joking, and when she is being sincere. For her, it sometimes puts people off guard, and they never quite know what to expect with her.

She's not afraid to make the difficult decisions when it comes to it. When faced with a potential Zygon take-over of UNIT, she orders the countdown of a nuclear device, willing to wipe out herself, UNIT and most of London to stop the potential alien invasion to save billions, much to the disgust of the Doctor, who knew what the cost to your soul was. She was willing to stand up to the man she admired, and do what she felt was necessary, no matter what.

She will just treat Teleios as if it were an extension to UNIT - there will be enough Doctors and assistants here that she will be happy, plus enough other people (and other species) that it will be interesting for her. Her crimes are something she had to do with work, they couldn’t be helped - the Earth doesn’t save itself, and the Doctor isn’t always available to do the dirty work. Philosophical - that probably sums up Kate’s view on life as a whole.

Powers/Abilities: She is human, with no powers or abilities other than her own mind.
